Dr Sean Holt has been a recreational diver for 20 years, qualified up to PADI Rescue diver and has recently passed the Freediving AIDA 2 and AIDA 3 courses in Dahab Egypt. He has been approved by the HSE (AMED – Approved Medical Examiner of Divers) to perform commercial diving medicals. This is a thorough medical examination that not only covers fitness to dive but also documents a baseline of medical results (e.g. hearing level, fitness level, BP) for review at subsequent examinations.

Please email us in advance of your appointment via the details. We can then answer any questions you may have and set aside additional time for your assessment.
Please bring or consider the following:
1. Photo ID e.g. passport or driving license
2. Your signed GP form or previous in date MA2 diving certificate
3. Your diving log book and evidence of your diving qualifications
4. Your glasses (do not wear contact lenses as they are removed for the eyesight test).
5. A full bladder. We will provide you with a urine specimen pot. We test for glucose, blood and protein, indicative of diabetes and kidney problems.
6. For the hearing test, if possible avoid loud noises 48 hours prior to your appointment.
7. If relevant any hospital letters.
8. If relevant a list of your current medication.
9. Avoid drinking excessive alcohol or caffeine drinks in the 24 hours before the appointment as the assessment also includes a fitness test known as a Chester Step Test. The applicant must download a medical history questionnaire……

11. The applicant must download a medical history questionnaire…….This is based on the HSE questionnaire and can be. Please complete this and then get your own GP to countersign that it is accurate. If there are any positive answers, please give details on the questionnaire or your GP to supply details or clinical letters/reports. The GP is likely to charge you as it is not an NHS service.
Who needs a HSE Diving Medical?
Any professional diver working for reward in UK waters, inland, inshore and offshore requires a valid HSE Diving Medical (MA2 certificate.)
This includes commercial divers, recreational instructors, divemasters and rescue divers (working for a commercial training agency), scientific divers, media divers, police and military divers.
There are three types of medical
1. Initial medical
2. Annual medical
3. Return to work after an illness or injury medical
A successful applicant will receive the HSE certificate (MA2) and will normally be valid for a maximum period of 1 year. A copy is kept by the diver and HSE will also receive a copy.
